She’s been compared to Alanis Morissette and Melissa Etheridge and she has a huge following in the Netherlands, but Anouk Teeuwe (more commonly known by the mononym – Anouk) is hardly known in the UK. Yet, if you check out her blog, you’ll find demands for her to play in Sweden, Turkey and even as far as Australia!
Born in 1975 in The Hague, she had her
first major break into the Dutch music scene back in 1997 with the single “Nobody’s Wife”. This remained at the top of the charts for several weeks. From then on, her success continued with a string of hit singles and eleven albums to date.
Her style is a mixture of alternative rock, indie chick and post-grunge with a hint of pop and a great deal of anguish. She sings about what she knows…..which is basically shall we say her, emotionally-charged and “colourful” past!
In March 2012 she performed a 3-date tour of the Netherlands and Belgium, but these shows were no mean feat. They included two sold-out shows in the Gelredome and one in the Antwerp Sportpaleis – giving a total audience of 100,000 people.
Ampco Flashlight Rental were tasked with putting on the shows. In pro-audio terms, the set-up was so vast it was over double that of the recent Take That Tour. Sound Engineer Remco Verhoek used more than 300 Synco cabinets housing Martin Audio line arrays.
These were hung in 48 clusters around the stadiums. Monitor Systems consisted of Synco CW152 wedges and PSM1000 in-ear systems for the four bands and Anouk herself.
The signal processing for the enormous front-of-house set-up was managed by more than 50 XTA digital processors. Verhoek used 20 x DP448, 8 x DP446, 4 x DP444 and 21 x DP226 – They were used for crossover duties in the flown systems and sub arrangements on the floor and were all controlled via AudioCore.
He was more than happy with the results…
