Walkabout Kits - Warning for NetStumbler Users
It has come to XTA’s attention that many users deploying wireless networks use this piece of freeware to check the local area for existing networks, We have discovered that the use of this utility can cause WiFI to serial adapters, including both the current DiGi WiSP and the older OTC WiSer 2400 to stop sending serial data.
If you have issues with your Walkabout kit suddenly losing connection even though it reports full signal strength within the NetGear card utility, and you also use the NetStumbler software, you will have to reboot the WiSP/Wiser and close the NetStumbler software. This also holds true for anyone else in the vicinity using the software – not just your machine!
As the WiFi link is still intact in these cases, the DiGi WiSP can be remotely rebooted via its web interface – please see the manual for details of how to access this, but don’t change any other settings once this interface has been accessed!
We have been in touch with DiGi directly to see if they know about this issue and will of course report back with any solutions or advice they can offer.
Thanks to Alex Hadjigeorgiou at Wigwam for all his help with this issue.
